did anyone see the episode with the girl and she has a gap in her teeth? They urged her to have it closed (they referring to Tyra and the gang) AND they were even willing to PAY FOR IT!!!! The girl refused to have her gap closed because it was her "trademark" and she said she loved her gapped teeth. But Tyra and the gang told her that if she wanted to continue in the competition she MUST get it closed. My question is this, why are gaps considered so ugly in the modeling industry? It seems like every thing else is acceptable but as soon as someone with a gap walks into the room it's like, "oh hell naw!!! you're gonna have to get that thing closed" What's up with that!?

Prejudice manifests itself in many, many ways.

Tue, April 25, 2006 - 10:31 AMWow, I'm flabbergasted that they would give her that ultimatum. If modeling is about self confidence, that will teach exactly the opposite: we'll tell you you're no good and you'll believe it!
Meanwhile, kudos to this gal -- she should be our spokesmodel. I'll send her a <a href="t-shirt</a>" title="www.cafepress.com/gaps">t-shirt</a>">www.cafepress.com/gaps">t-shirt</a> if anyone can dig up an address for her.
And if anyone's interested in stirring up a PR ruckus about this, let me know: diastematic@yahoo.com. Been there before. The media eats this sort of thing up.

Thu, November 2, 2006 - 1:42 AMWell if I was there, I would probably say fix it, but then again I am in my 30's and yet to have mine fixed..
Its not a bad thing. I think it makes a persons character different, its special almost like a good kind of curse..
My children are the 4 generation to have the trait.
